Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I am extremely passionate and dedicated to the sport of rowing. I have worked tirelessly over the winter and am now one of the fastest on the team. I feel like I have now hit my stride and want to continue during my college years.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

Through my work with RAMP, I organized the annual "Squash Hunger" fundraiser, a squash tournament which raised enough money to fund 150 weekend snack backpacks. During the process of organizing the event, I negotiated the donated courts, publicized the event, seeded the entries into a draw, and ran the tournament.

At the boathouse, I help the novice rowers with their technique on and off the water and right now, during the Covid-19 crisis, I am encouraging my teammates to keep up with the daily workout plan so we can hit the ground running and be stronger as a team when we are released from quarantine.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I have learned how to properly fuel, hydrate and rest to perform at my best as an athlete. I have also learned how to be very diligent with time management to tackle the heavy academic course load I have taken during junior year.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Since 2017, I have worked with RAMP Kids, a grass-roots organization founded in 2009 to help one of the most impoverished counties in the U.S. - Martin County, Kentucky. I organize and participate in fundraising projects throughout the school year to fund the vital weekend Backpack Snack Program for schoolchildren in Martin County that provides fresh produce and nutritious snacks on the last 2 weekends of every month. I travel every summer to Inez, Kentucky to work at the community food pantry, manually packing and delivering donated fresh produce for distribution to 300+ families at the food pantry. This is important to me because this community has been "forgotten" and RAMP has become one of the most relied upon resources in Martin County.

Additionally, I am a junior firefighter at Glenville Volunteer Fire Company, my local firehouse. Since 2017, I have attended training/drill sessions including live burn, fire suppression, search and forced entry, cold water rescue and jaws of life. I represent the firehouse in local parades, ceremonies, outreach and education programs.
