As a junior, I am in my 6th year of coaching the special needs cheerleading team named Highlights at Apex Cheer. Every Monday, I volunteer and teach the kids to tumble, jump, cheer and stunt. I have been the head coach of this team since my freshman year. Every practice it is my responsibility to get all of the athletes from the lobby of the gym and ready for practice and also return them back to their parents at the end of the practice. During practice, I lead the team in a warm-up, cheers and dances, and teach new tumbling skills. Highlights competes at four competitions each year and it is incredible to watch them shine on stage. I have gained many valuable life lessons from coaching this team, the most important ones being commitment, ability to lead, patience, inclusion, and how to work with different personalities and abilities.
