Personal Highlights

Hello! My name is Chloe Newton. I am a 6'0" OH/DS from Louisville, KY, the home of the Kentucky Derby! I just completed my sophomore year (Class of 2022) with a 4.0 GPA in all advanced courses at Mercy Academy, where I am an OH on the Varsity & JV Volleyball teams. Volleyball has been a huge part of my life for the past eight years, as I began playing club ball when I was just eight years old. During club season I played for Union 16-2 Asics as an OH and six-rotation player. Unfortunately, our season was cut short, but not before I was able to demonstrate my abilities on the court. During the club season I was named one of 10 underrated Louisville 16s to watch, one of six Louisville Sophomore outside hitters to watch and one of five underrated 6th region Juniors-to-be by Prep Dig. Prior to that I had an exciting high school season finishing 2nd in Gold at the Durango Fall Classic and ending the season as the Kentucky High School State Runner-up. I was also honored to be able to represent my school by singing the National Anthem at many of our home games throughout the season. Aside from my indoor experience, I also have some beach doubles experience I gained playing for Union Sand Volleyball/Bluegrass Beach. On the court I am best known for my strong work ethic, being a team player and for being highly coachable. I take instructions well and immediately work to turn them into results.

As important as volleyball is to me, my parents have raised me and encouraged me to be very well rounded, putting focus on my education above everything else. I am highly motivated academically and very involved in school, participating in a variety of both academically and socially focused clubs and activities. I have had a 4.0 through my entire school career thus far and was acknowledged by Duke TiP with Kentucky State Recognition for receiving a high score on the ACT as a 7th grader. Between my Freshman & Sophomore years I was honored as an AAU Academic All American, selected into the Mercy Scholars Diploma Program for academically gifted students, selected as a Mercy Ambassador and selected for the Stilettones (Mercy's a cappella advanced choral group). My Freshman year I also participated in the Region and State FBLA competition finishing 2nd place and in the top 8, and traveled to Costa Rica to do tropical rainforest science research on antibiotic producing Atta ants. I finished my Sophomore year ranked 6th out of 132 students in my class and wrapped up my 3rd year volunteering my time and service at a few local organizations, such as the Louisville Zoo and Dare to Care.

My collegiate dream is to be able to combine my love for the game and my love for science. I want to play collegiate volleyball and earn my degree in Biology/Biomedical Science. I would really love to learn more about your school and your volleyball program to see if they are a good fit.

Do you need an OH/DS or utility hitter in your 2022 class? If you do and you think I would be a good fit for your program, or you just want to learn a little more about me, I would love to speak with you! You can also follow me on Twitter @chloenewton.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me!

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I want to be recruited to play sports in college so that I may continue to learn and play the sport I love with other players and coaches who can develop me further as a player. I want to be able to get more exposure to the game and continue to be able to play more competitively and at a higher level, with the best of the best - just one of the things I love about volleyball. In addition, I would get the opportunity to advance and complete my education so that I may succeed in a future career.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

As an athlete, I have demonstrated leadership both on and off the court in many ways. On the court, and in-and-out of seasons, I have been an all-around player leading my teams to many wins and successes. In school I am a participant of many different programs, including Mercy Scholars, Mercy Ambassadors and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), which have given me the opportunity to develop leadership skills and become a leader of the school by making decisions on behalf of the rest of my peers.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

As a student athlete, I have to focus on finding balance between my academics and athletics. In order to successfully pursue “healthy athletic performance” I have to make sure I prioritize schoolwork first, but then also place my health and fitness as a high priority. That includes making sure I focus on nutrition and keep a good sleep schedule so my body and mind can be on its A-game both in the classroom and on the court.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

The last two years I have spent parts of my summer volunteering at the Louisville Zoo through their VolunTeen program. I volunteered in the Butterfly exhibit during the summer of 2018, and I am currently volunteering in the Wallaby exhibit this summer. I have also volunteered in my community (through freshman service) sorting food at Dare to Care, serving the homeless and hungry at the Franciscan Kitchen, and landscaping the grounds at the Louisville Zoo. This service to my community is very important to me because it allows me to pursue passions I have, as well as help those who may not be as fortunate as I am in certain areas.
