I enjoy many athletic activities such as beach volleyball, skiing, basketball, and surfing. I traveled to the Florida coast to attend surf camp since Dallas offers limited surfing opportunities. I am a passionate animal lover and advocate for the humane treatment of animals by volunteering at Operation Kindness, a local no-kill animal shelter. I especially support organizations working towards establishing more humanitarian treatment of dolphins , sharks, and whales.
I am a strong student and work hard to excel academically by taking advanced placement and honors courses.
Softball has been a huge part of my life since I was in first grade. It has taught me many important lessons and impacted who I am as a person. It has made me tough. I don't give up easily and continue to work hard to achieve a goal even if we fall behind or lose players due to injury. It has developed my leadership skills and made me appreciate the importance of collaboration and working together as a team. It has often been exhilarating and fun but at other times, disappointing and even devastating. I have laughed a lot and sometimes cried tears. Some days I pick up my team mates and encourage them after a loss or an error. And other days, they return the favor and pick me up when my performance falls short of my expectations. And through it all, I have learned that the next day you pick yourself up and try again. I honestly cannot imagine my life without softball. I look forward to becoming an even stronger player during my high school years and would love to continue the journey in college. I want to be a leader and begin figuring out how I can utilize my physical and mental softball skills in my future, career, and life. It would be an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to play college softball while completing my college education at an excellent institution.
For my select softball team, I enjoy providing team leadership by working hard and leading by example. I am considered a "team player" in that I am always willing to go the extra mile and help where help is needed. I try to lift up my team with encouraging words when they may be feeling down or stressed by the pressures of the game. This past year, as a freshman player on my high school varsity softball team, I was lucky to be mentored by older players on the team who taught me the importance of taking the leadership role very seriously . They were great role models for me, and as the year progressed, I realized that other students and younger softball players looked to me for these same qualities. This awareness encouraged me to lead by example and make good choices. I also try to use my leadership skills in the classroom by encouraging my peers to work together on school projects, solve difficult problems, and in general, think about the impact of their choices on the world around them.
I have to use time management to provide adequate time to do what is necessary to practice as an athlete while keeping up with my school work as a student. I try to also give myself enough rest to perform optimally as a student and athlete. I focus on making good food choices that will maximize my body and brain's performance. I am not perfect and do occasionally indulge (my favorite indulgence is green tea ice cream) but, just like in the game of softball, I pick myself up and get back on track. I also give myself time to be with my friends and do "non softball" activities to recharge my battery.
I enjoy devoting my time to taking care of animals that are in need by being a volunteer at a local no kill animal shelter. I help feed , exercise, and nurture the various pets that are in this shelter. I enjoy participating in local softball camps for younger students where I try to encourage their interest and enthusiasm for the game. I have volunteered at our local community garden which grows produce for local food banks. In general, I feel good when I give back to the community and make other lives (animals and people) better.
